Willits (CA) Chamber of Commerce welcomes new Executive Director

Ron Moorheard

The Willits Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to making “Willits a better place to live, work and play.” In addition, they seek to promote the city, specifically towards bettering it’s “economic well-being and quality of life.” Though the organization’s mission statement and statement of purpose are succinct, the actions that are needed to fulfill them are both complex and fluid.

Fortunately, the Board of Directors of the Willits Chamber recently named a new Executive Director who is not only dedicated to the mission and purpose as the organization identifies them, but has an understanding of the breadth and depth of the role. Ron Moorhead, has been involved with the Willits Chamber for over 30 years as both an advocate and a member. “I was a volunteer, then President of the Board for 14 years. I retired from that position and now I’m back. I was also a member. I owned multiple businesses in Willits that supported the Chamber,” said Moorhead.

Using his well-rounded understanding of the Willits Chamber, the new Executive Director is being proactive about talking to local business owners and identifying both systemic problems and possible solutions. “We are concentrating on creating a united front,” explained Moorhead regarding the concepts leadership have been outlining. “If Willits is strong on business, we’re stronger as a community.” Part of the ‘united front’ the organization is working to create involves a partly integrated relationship with the City of Willits. “We have been talking with the City Manager about policies and how to help business owners in Willits to understand how they do and do not affect them. There are some preconceptions and possible miscommunications about local policy and we know this because business owners confide in us about their frustrations and confusions.” Fortuitously, the Executive Director’s spouse, Cathy Moorhead, is the Deputy City Manager of Willits leading to a natural, unencumbered connection between the two entities.
