Local architectural firm Overland Partners has been picked to lead the design of a new river walk in China’s 12th-largest city, roughly 7,500 miles from the San Antonio River Walk.
The river walk under construction in Nanjing, China, will be part of the South New City project, which is expected to deliver in 2020. The project was launched from a need to create a loop to connect three rivers: the outer Qinhuai River, Xiangshui River and Airport River. Drawing on the success of the world-renowned San Antonio River Walk, Overland Partners’ framework includes a series of distinctly themed urban and natural intersections. Strategically placed parks will spotlight waterfront landscape, outdoor sports and ecology as invitations for community members to engage the natural environment, just as the Mission Reach portion of San Antonio’s River Walk does.
Overland has been involved in the design of several other projects in China in the cities of Lijiang, Gaochun, Yangzhou, Guangzhou and Wuxi. Internationally, the company has also designed projects in Mexico. At home, the company has led dozens of projects across Texas, including many in San Antonio. It is currently the lead architectural firm for Zachry Hospitality’s planned $200 million Hemisfair development.Source
