China Rail Maintenance Equipment Study Tour, Columbia, South Carolina, Chicago
April 28 - May 4
Opportunity To Meet With Rail Decision-Makers From China
On a visit to the United States, senior representatives from China’s railroad industry will learn about U.S. maintenance equipment and track flaw detection technologies. Led by senior officials from the China Railway Corporation (CR), the delegation will include
experts on track maintenance, power supply, telecommunications and signaling.
With plans to invest about $500 billion, China has ambitious plans for developing and modernizing its rail network, including expanding the overall railway network to 150,000 km by 2020. China also aims to expand its high-speed passenger rail network to 30,000 km by 2020, as well as significantly expanding and upgrading its freight rail network. China’s network is already the third largest in the world, and represents the fastest growing. However, rapid growth
in both passenger and freight traffic has caused significant bottlenecks. In response, CR is focused on new line construction, upgrading and double-tracking existing lines, establishing dedicated freight lines, and investing more in track maintenance and communications systems to improve efficiency.
