The Monitor: Edinburg (Texas) Economic Development Corporation hires former Harlingen commissioner Plinio “Joey” Treviño
EDINBURG — The city named a new economic development director Friday afternoon. Board members for the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation interviewed a second finalist during a noon meeting and immediately named him executive director. Harlingen native Plinio “Joey” Treviño, 53, was selected to lead the city’s economic development efforts after the EDC board terminated its former director last year.
A new drive towards people-powered business is to be headed by the former Bermuda Economic Development Corporation’s small business expert, it was announced yesterday. Jamahl Simmons, the Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, said William Spriggs will be the BEDC director of economic and co-operative development.
Cheryl Fahrner says she’s not about to tell Columbia County communities what strategies they should pursue for economic development — at least not until she’s heard what local residents and leaders want. “It isn’t just me that makes things happen,” said Fahrner, who on Wednesday was introduced as successor to Nancy Elsing as executive director of the Columbia County Economic Development Corp.
Omaha Sen. Brett Lindstrom had a gut feeling about the potential of Dave Rippe to lead Nebraska’s Department of Economic Development. “He was my No. 1 pick even prior to the governor selecting him, just because I had seen him in different venues before, discussing his approach,” Lindstrom said. “And what he did in Hastings, I think, will transition well into the state.”
